2nd International Academic Consortium of Sustainable Cities Symposium
Towards a Sustainable Future: A Collaboration of Higher Education Institution and Local Society
The Social Transformation Platform in Universiti Sains Malaysia in collaboration with Yokohama City University will be organizing the 2nd IACSC Symposium in the University Main Conference Hall, USM on September 10-11, 2011.
The main goal of this consortium is to provide a platform for discussion and sharing of urban sustainability topics and findings. It also aims to stimulate inter-disciplinary discussions and networking to further enhance the knowledge of academicians, practitioners, and professionals on urban sustainability. The scopes of the papers that will be presented by invited speakers are mainly (but not limited to) about Environment, Public Health, and Urban Design and Management.
 
What is IACSC?
The International Academic Consrotium of Sustainable Cities (IACSC) is an international network of universities and research institutions working closely with city governments in collaboration with CITYNET, international organizations, development agencies, NGOs/ NPOs, and other related organizations.
Scope of Activities
  (1) Main activities focus on (but are not limited to):
    Environment
    Urban Design and Management
    Public Health
  (2) Sharing of information/ resources
    Collection of examples of successful and unsuccessful cases (including tacit knowledge)
    Matching needs of cities with seeds of researches
    Construction of database with previous information
    Uploading of progress reports of pilot projects at its website, etc.
  (3) Surveys/ Research
    Identifying needs
    Selecting issues
    Searching solution to issues identified
  (4) Policy recommendation
  (5) Project formulations
  (6) Exchanges and trainings
